JOB TITLE: Teacher

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. The Early Childhood Teacher is required to plan and implement curriculum in his/her primary classrooms.
  2. The Early Childhood Teacher should have the ability to interact with the children and encourage them to participate in various activities.
  3. He/She is required to deal with small children and hence it is important to practice patience and good presence of mind.
  4. He/She is required to address children’s social/emotional as well as their educational needs
  5. Early Childhood Teachers must also assess the children’s learning as well as their social/emotional.
  6. Early childhood teacher should always show attention to each and every child

QUALIFICATIONS:

Early Childhood Teacher is required to have 60 semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with 6 semesters hours (or 9 quarter hours) in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age 6; or 30 semester hours in Early Childhood or Child Development with 6 semester hours in early childhood or child development and 1650 hours working in a preschool class or daycare center; or completion of a credentialing program approved by the Department.

REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan activities using a variety of materials and equipment to develop literacy, math, science, diversity, art and cognitive skills.
  • Observe children to evaluate and record their progress, and identify specific needs of each child.
  • Discuss with parents aspects of their child’s development and goals for future learning.
  • Plan and implement lesson plans
  • Promote awareness and appreciation of all cultures
  • Promote good health and safety practices.
  • Guide and team teach with teacher assistants
  • Assist children with their toileting  and other personal needs
  • Attend to sick children and those in need of first aid, and fill out required accident forms
  • Overall provide a safe, nurturing environment to learn and play.
  • First Aid and CPR
  • ECE 1 (set of trainings)
  • Physical less than 6 months old
  • Fingerprinting and background clearance
